Today, Lynchburg has more historical architecture than most cities in the United States. The abundance of first-class buildings is a result of the city's wealth during the previous 150 years. In 1860, Lynchburg was the country's second wealthiest city per capita, fueled by the booming tobacco business of the day. In 1915, it held the honor of third wealthiest city per capita, this time due to the shoe business which flourished well into the 20th century. More homes are being bought and restored everyday. Plenty of houses are still available for those interested in restoring them to their former grandeur. Both before and after pictures will fascinate those who have restored a house our are thinking about a future project. |
